Importance of Traditional School Education

In the past, most people learned in public or private schools. On the other hand, recently there are more and more parents who decide to let their kids learn at home. Why home schooling is growing? Keri D. Ingraham (2022) showed that some parents consider homeschooling surely offer their kids a stable environment without the political or religious indoctrination. Nevertheless, before adapting in the future workplace, it is absolutely necessary that students practice social skills during the development. What’s more, they should also learn to handle competition and build strong collaboration with people. To achieve those objectives, parents should bring their kids to school.

Social Skills

The first primary reason that students should attend school is that school provides the environment to practice social skills. According to Eric Ravenscraft (2020), social skills have a huge influence on building constructive communication with others. If students lack social skills, they may often feel nervous and even anxious when interacting with other people. What’s worse, they would have difficulties in fathoming what others think about due to less practice of social skills. School offers adequate space to let students learn together in classroom or outside, and it gives students opportunities to connect with a variety of people from different culture. Jennifer Herrity (2023) mentioned that students will gradually understand each other’s feeling through getting along with peers at school, and this helps them develop their empathy to stand in other’s shoes. In addition to practicing socials skills, students can also greatly broaden their horizon and being less restricted in certain field by exchanging opinions with others during the communication at school.

Competition & Collaboration

The second critical reason is that there are competition and collaboration between peers which can inspire students’ motivation of learning in school. Josh Neubert (2016) demonstrated that beneficial peer comparison can drive students’ incentive to seek for higher academic performance with external rewards or mental state of winning for competition. However, students sometimes feel under the stress in the competition, and even the relationship between peers becomes strained. Because of this, the importance of collaboration at school stands out. Josh Neubert (2016) mentioned that having a team work can enhance students’ will to learning and harmonize the negative effect competition brings. Students often have collaborative tasks, such as team report and group discussion in school. Through working with each other to complete the challenging task, students not only learn knowledge together but also improve the relationship between each other. On top of that, to help students adapting to the workplace in the future, it is necessary to train their tolerance under peer pressure and let them learn to work with others at school.

Fixed Schedule:
Limit Student's Time?

Nonetheless, homeschooling supporters may argue that traditional schooling has no flexibility to let students arrange their own schedule Yes, it is true that fixed time indeed limited their time to engage activities or develop their interests. While we can put it in another different aspect--Learning is scheduled. Harshika Agrawal (2020) argued that fixed school time table helps students develop habits of being on time in class. It can make students more punctual and responsible in their work when they turn into adulthood. Besides, even though school schedule is steady, it does not mean the courses in school are monotonous. Courses arranged by school not only focus on academic test. Instead, students in school have chances to enjoy various practical classes, such as cooking class, experiment class, art class, and so on. And best of all, school can offer those classes fully equipped kitchens, laboratories, or classrooms to let students have a better experience during learning.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is vastly indispensable that every student needs to practice social skills and learn between competition and collaboration at school. Furthermore, school prepares well-organized time table for each student to easily follow and to help them improve punctuality. Therefore, parents should put traditional schooling in the first place for the long-term development of kids. Traditional schooling is an essential pre-work before students engage their career in the future. Contributions to this pre-work, students can build up their interpersonal relationship with less obstacles, perform well under pressure, and cooperate fully with other colleagues in their work.
