Three Books

I practically stayed at home and fixed on the same chair whole winter vocation. My mother mocked me that I was a tree which was planted in the dining room. Without going outside,

I estimate that I walked less than 30 steps per day, and I only had one meal prepared by my mom everyday during winter vacation due to my bloody laziness. Nonetheless, I have read many books during my vocation, so now I choose 3 books to recommend !

克蘇魯          事件簿

It has 3 volumes. I like the third one most.

The whole story is about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in Cthulhu World, which is surrounded with indescribable horror.

The setting of story amazes me that the famous detective Sherlock Holmes should break his rational principle to fight against the evil gods because there are too many things that can not be proved by the human’s eyes and what they saw is unable to use science to explain.

To my surprise, Sherlock Holmes decided to exchange his soul with evil god Cthulhu to save the peace of the world. For this, I see his strong justice is full of his heart. Even though he is unwilling to become what he loathes, he never forgets his determination and original goal.

反蘇格拉底

Socrates has ever said,

“No one is perfect. However, the most awful thing is to consider yourself perfect and always right.”

The book contains the philosophy of life. The author also tries to inspire our reverse and critical thinking.
One  main idea is to tell us what others say depends on their subjective judgement rather than the truth.

I agree with one concept of the book,“Never hate your enemies, it will let your judgement obtuse.”
Normally, I can make sense that it is much easier to hatred others than make friends with them. However, I find that what I feel annoyed about always controls me. Trying to forgive other benefits us more in some degree.

My favorite word in this book, “No matter how painful you feel now, just expect yourself who smile in the future so that you will feel at ease.” That is, look forward to the future and nourish the hope!

Hercule Poirot has ever said,

“You see, my dear doctor, I don’t merely rely on the detection. What I find is neither fingerprint nor tobacco ash. It’s mental state. Well, science can be the assistance tool.”

Murder on the Orient Express

There was a passenger killed on the train, and the international detective Hercule Poirot started an investigation of this case. The truth behind the story is out of my expectation. I suggest you guy to read it yourself, and I won’t give any spoilers.

I think it’s interesting to compare Hercule Poirot with another detective Sherlock Holmes.

I consider Sherlock Holmes is a master of logic, while Hercule Poirot is an expert in mind game.

Sherlock Holmes focuses on scientific empiricism and logic. He seldom knows others’ emotion. However, Poirot reveals the mysteries through analyzing suspects’ mental state and testimony.

Besides, Sherlock Holmes has ever said: “I never guess. It’s a shocking habit.” Conversely, Hercule Poirot breaks this statement. How to let people drop their guard? he said, “Just take a good guess, those who are lying usually speak with honesty if your assumption is rational and close to the truth.”
